The Pain and Pleasure of Motherhood - Happy Families

The Best Job in the World!

Being a Mum has to be one of the toughest, but also one of the most rewarding jobs. In the first year a mother’s life is a rollercoaster ride, filled with unbelievable highs and of course inevitable lows. However, the year will fly by and suddenly you will wonder what happened to your tiny baby as they now seem so grown up! Make the most of this first year and enjoy spending as much time as possible with your baby. I know it is a cliché but you will never get this time back. Enjoy singing to your baby, feeding your baby, bathing your baby and playtimes. The rewards are priceless. Sure, there is no overtime pay, performance bonus or pension contributions but there are plenty of memories to cherish. Keep a log of all those special milestones, your baby’s first smile, the first time they rolled over, had a bath, sat up, crawled, walked, spoke, got their first tooth and had their first birthday and record them appropriately.

Remember, you and your partner created this beautiful little baby which has brought so much joy and love. Babies do not care how much money is in the bank account or the sort of house they live in or the kind of car you drive, they remember the time you spent nurturing them and the unconditional love and support you gave them on a daily basis. Being a parent is a two way communication process. As parents we do the best we can to teach and educate our children and in turn children through their behaviour challenge us to learn more about ourselves and help us re-define and put into perspective life’s priorities. The unconditional love, the innocence, the curiosity and the joy children have for life makes being a Mum the best job in the world. It’s a role we are proud to take on for the rest of our lives and no matter how tough it may seem at times, having children is definitely the best thing I ever did!
