Cheap Baby Cards: Is there a price to pay?

ARE THEY REALLY A BARGAIN?

Times are tough and when things are tight we tend to try and find a bargain, particularly on items which are not deemed as an absolute necessity. However, as we all know sometimes low prices offered may deliver on the price front but often you have to compromise on quality. Or what initially appears to be a bargain isn't always the case by the time you've added on those sneaky charges which take you by surprise at the checkout or taken into account lengthy delivery times.

When you want to commemorate a special occasion such as the arrival of a new baby, it's a once in a lifetime moment. Sure, having a baby can be an expensive time but friends and family have gone to great lengths to provide you with love, support and generous baby gifts so do you really want to send a cheap looking card to show your gratitude?

You will most likely have a budget in mind and also an idea of the type of design and style of card. There are many websites which will draw you in on the price and claim to offer discount cards. Although at first glance they may appear to offer the best price there are a few pitfalls to be aware of before ordering. To help you we've listed the most common things to watch out for if the price seems too good to be true.

Card Quality

CARD QUALITY - often a cheaper price means a cheaper type of card, or you pay extra to upgrade. Ideally to receive quality cards you should be looking for a weight of 350gsm (which is similar weight to a normal greeting card). If you want to handwrite on the card the stock will also need to be either silk or matt as with a gloss stock it's too shiny to write on with a ball point pen.

OUR STANDARD STOCK IS A 350GSM SILK CARD

Hidden ChargesHIDDEN CHARGES - look out for these, some websites display a design and then charge you for photo uploads, adding text on the inside, envelopes etc which all adds up by the time you reach the checkout. This can be a frustrating process as originally the price may have been within budget but at the checkout it's often more expensive than initially advertised.

OUR PRICES ARE ALL INCLUSIVE - THE PRICE YOU SEE IS THE PRICE YOU PAY.

Delivery Charges

DELIVERY/P&P CHARGES - again keep an eye on these, sometimes they can be more expensive than the cards themselves! Take into account delivery times also, no delivery charges may apply but it could take 2 weeks to deliver which is a long time to wait. If you want them any quicker you're often required to pay a premium.

OUR DELIVERY SERVICE IS FREE IN THE UK AND ONLY TAKES 2-3 DAYS.

No Guarantee

GUARANTEE - check to see if the company offers a guarantee. If they offer quality products this should be backed up by their guarantee and helps to reassure you when buying online.

WE OFFER A 100% MONEY BACK GUARANTEE, IF YOU'RE NOT HAPPY, NEITHER ARE WE.

Easy to Contact

EASY TO CONTACT - with everything becoming automated it can often be hard to get to talk with a real person. Check the website displays a phone number you can call incase you encounter any issues with your order.

OUR PHONE NUMBER IS DISPLAYED AT THE TOP OF THE WEBSITE.

Secure Payments

SECURE PAYMENT - although buying online is accepted and common practice you still need to be vigilent when entering in your payment details. Always check the link in your browser is https:// on the page where you enter your credit card details as this means the page is secure and your details will be encrpyted.
